Potential Title for Autoethnography

I am not completely sure how I want to word my title, I have just been dabbling with different ideas but here are a few I just haven’t been able to choose between or decide which best fits my purpose.

• The Art of Being Present

• The Struggle to “Be”

• The Art of Paying Attention

• Noticing the Present

• The Presence of Being (My current top choice, I am leaning more towards this title than any other)

• Remaining Present

  1. In art (and this would include writing) there is a conceptual mantra that expresses value in the “presence in absence.”

For your title, you might consider a flip of this well-known and respected artistic principle: “The Absence of Presence.” This could work as a title, and perhaps an overarching idea in your paper, because it does seems that your purpose in this paper is to shine a light on the fact that we are not present often enough, or deeply enough in our everyday lives. Technology, and particularly mobile devices, are very disrupting and/or dismissive of opportunities for us to be present.

You could also consider using the mantra itself as your title: Presence in Absence

I’m now thinking maybe this is your message as the “absence” of the phone created a profound and meaningful opportunity for you to be “present” during this short time.
